I’ve known Rey Ridalin since he was known as… well, that doesn’t matter anymore! Rey is among the most prolific artists I’ve ever worked with, and his work is GOOD. As someone who doesn’t have a lot of hiphop in her iTunes library, I have to tell you – Rey has earned a permanent spot on all my “GET MOVING” playlists.

Nao contacted me wanting a portrait for his company’s new website launch – Green Street Energy. He specifically requested that we “stay away from anything corporate looking,” seeking instead a casual – while still professional – portrait.

Women in tech make my heart (and brain!) happy. Having spent some time in the field myself, I can relate to how male-dominated it is, and I have a special kind of appreciation for awesome women who are breaking the mold! Meredith Perry is just such a woman with her invention and company, uBeam. There’s not much to the site yet, but she’s generating a lot of buzz in both the business and tech spheres, by addressing a problem we’ve all had: dead batteries in our precious mobile devices. Basically, Meredith’s dream was to live in a world where you could walk into your favorite coffee shop, book store, restaurant, or airport and wirelessly charge your phone without ever needing a cable.

I was lucky to get a personal tour of the prototype by Meredith herself, when I stopped by her home office last year to take some photos on assignment for Daily BR!NK. It’s definitely one of those inventions that makes you wonder why no one had come up with it already

I love senior dogs, I really do. They’re so relaxed and chilled out at home, but can still get just as excited about a game of catch in the park as any young puppy! Casey, a 10-year-old golden retriever, is a perfect example. His energy came in bursts, encouraged by a tennis ball and some loving owners

We hung out in Cooper Park for a bit, throwing the ball around and showering Casey with treats. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!

Laura and Lee wanted to have some portraits taken “so our kids know what we looked like when we were young.” How sweet is that? They also reached out to me saying they’re both camera shy for the most part – as it turns out, that’s my specialty

We took a little stroll through one of my favorite places in Brooklyn, Prospect Park. I grew up down the street from it so I know some photogenic spots! It had recently snowstorm-ed, so much of the park was blocked off as some trees had fallen, but I’m proud to report that with the exception of one photo (you’ll know it when you see it) you can’t really tell!

Here it is, the only photo in the set where you can see how snowy it actually was in the park that day!

Mr. L got in touch with me because his anniversary was approaching and as a gift to his wife, he wanted to have a photo session with their adorable daughter Olive. What a guy! Great gift idea if you ask me

We spent some time wandering Sunset Park and got some really fun shots, then headed back to their apartment to catch the last bit of sunlight coming through the windows.

One of my favorite accidental series ever – little Olive suddenly propped herself up like this without any help, and here’s a mini flipbook of her parents noticing it!

Fox and Jamie were married on a sunny fall day under a gazebo in Central Park, surrounded by about 30 of their favorite people. Smaller, intimate weddings are my favorite kind to shoot and theirs was beautiful. Central Park has tons of gorgeous little tucked-away spots for a private ceremony, and I love discovering new ones as I photograph these weddings!

Bring To Light is a free art installation that was situated in Greenpoint, Brooklyn as New York’s contribution to an international showcase featuring “nuit blanche” (French for “sleepless night”) events across the world. Bring To Light invites visitors to wander the Greenpoint waterfront and observe site-specific installations of light, sound, performance, and projection.

It started raining while I was in the middle of walking through the exhibits, but I got to see some really amazing light art before the downpour. Let the “oohs” and “aahs” commence!

This was a really cool gig for me. When I was hired I had NO IDEA it would turn out to be as fun as it was – one of the perks of being a photographer!

I was hired by the Transportation Learning Center to accompany their Project Associate as she visited various training sites for NYC Transit workers. Each of the sites had been awarded a grant as part of the Transit Green Jobs Training Partnership, and the TLC rep was visiting the sites to interview the training providers. For the first half of the day I moved quietly around the back of conference rooms taking photos while the interviews were conducted and honed my fly-on-the-wall skills.

AND THEN! I was magically transported (heh) to a secret underground lair!

Ok no, it wasn’t really like that, but it did feel that way to my overactive imagination. What actually happened was we went to the 8th Avenue and 14th Street subway station where I was given a brief tour of the Signal Training School that’s housed there. While it’s not exactly hidden per se, I’ve been inside that very station a million times and I never knew the school existed! It was fascinating. NYC’s very own Harry Potter!

Very impressive, MTA. Not too shabby. I’m glad there’s an entire school dedicated to this because I ride the subway every day and it’s good to know I’m in safe, well-trained hands!

Both this year and last, I was lucky enough to serve as assistant to Becky Maynes when she travelled here from London to photograph the backstage at NYC Fashion Week. These images are from the Narciso Rodriguez shows. When I wasn’t holding a reflector or making sure Becky didn’t get an elbow to the face while she worked, I was able to snap some photos of the beautiful (and giant! to me, anyway, I’m 5’2″) models.
