You may remember that back in October, I photographed my friend Amy for her feature on the online publication Daily BR!NK. Well, I took a look around the website and thought the platform was so interesting that I applied to become one of the site’s staff photographers. A few weeks later I had an interview, and voilà! Every now and then I get to photograph one of NYC’s brilliant young up-and-comers.
My first assignment was with Juan Carlos P.E., a writer and director of films and web content. His first feature was called Second Skin, a documentary that followed several serious computer gamers and explored how their lives had been affected by the hobby. I had actually seen the film on Netflix. I am a nerd.
As a director, Juan Carlos told me he isn’t used to being in front of the camera – a feeling I can completely relate to. We took our time to relax into the shoot, getting comfortable natural poses. It took a while but I’m glad we got it! We talked the whole time, and appropriately, it turned out he was most at ease with a script in hand. You can read Juan’s feature here.
