Women in tech make my heart (and brain!) happy. Having spent some time in the field myself, I can relate to how male-dominated it is, and I have a special kind of appreciation for awesome women who are breaking the mold! Meredith Perry is just such a woman with her invention and company, uBeam. There’s not much to the site yet, but she’s generating a lot of buzz in both the business and tech spheres, by addressing a problem we’ve all had: dead batteries in our precious mobile devices. Basically, Meredith’s dream was to live in a world where you could walk into your favorite coffee shop, book store, restaurant, or airport and wirelessly charge your phone without ever needing a cable.

Check out these articles at npr or engadget for a more detailed explanation of how uBeam works! I was lucky to get a personal tour of the prototype by Meredith herself, when I stopped by her home office last year to take some photos on assignment for Daily BR!NK. It’s definitely one of those inventions that makes you wonder why no one had come up with it already 🙂

Good luck, Meredith! Can’t wait to see uBeam in action!
